Course Description:
The AP Psychology course introduces students to the scientific study of human behavior and mental processes. Students evaluate and critique a variety of well-known psychological studies while exploring and applying psychological theories, key concepts, and phenomena. The AP Psychology course provides a unique opportunity for students to learn about topics and concepts that directly influence their thinking and behavior. The course focuses on the following topics: developmental psychology; learning and cognition; social psychology; treatment of psychological disorders; sensation and perception; motivation, emotion, and stress.
AP Psychology is a social studies elective that is offered to sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have proven capable of exhibiting a strong work-ethic in the classroom and have an innate curiosity in the behavioral sciences. The course is designed to help students master introductory level psychology concepts while exposing them to the material in an interactive and engaging manner that they may not experience in a college classroom setting. Student will leave this course with a greater understanding of the factors that influence who they are and how they think.
Prerequisite:
Teacher recommendation from an AP/Honors Human Geography, an AP/Honors US History or an AP/Honors World History teacher is recommended. Students should be able to read a college-level textbook and write grammatically correct, complete sentences
