Course Description:
In AP Statistics, the students will learn to collect/analyze/interpret data, design/perform/analyze results of experiments, test for statistical significance to support/deny a claim and estimate a claim with high confidence. Students must have good critical thinking skills as well as high reading comprehension skills.
Prerequisite:
Teacher recommendation from an Honors/Regular Algebra II (or higher) teacher is recommended. The AP Statistics course is an excellent option for any secondary school student who has successfully completed a second-year course in algebra and who possesses sufficient mathematical maturity and quantitative reasoning ability. Because second-year algebra is the prerequisite course, AP Statistics is usually taken in either the junior or senior year.
Relevant Careers:
Unless the student wants to become an engineer, they will find the majority of majors in college require them to take a statistics course. The course would also be helpful in a career that requires data analysis or testing the legitimacy of claims. (examples include market research, analyst: sports, financial, business, etc., actuary, software engineer, the list goes on)
