AP World History

Course Description:

The AP World History course is a college level survey course that gives a broad overview of the historical processes that shaped and developed the world from 1200CE to the present. The course is designed to give a balanced thematic overview of the major processes that have shaped world history from the late Post-Classical period to the present. Special attention is paid to the historical thinking skills of comparison, causation, and continuity and change over time. Students engage in analysis and interpretation of primary source materials frequently.  Application of the historical thinking skills is demonstrated through essay writing, debates, round table discussions, and seminars.

Prerequisite:

A recommendation from an AP Human Geography is preferred but not required. There are no prerequisites for AP World History: . Students should be able to read a college-level textbook and write grammatically correct, complete sentences.

Relevant Careers:

Special attention is paid to preparing students for their careers in higher education. Articulation in writing and argumentation is practiced frequently. Relevant careers include: 

  • High school history teacher.
  • College or university history professor.
  • Government historian.
  • Historical consultant.
  • Political advisor.
  • Museum curator.
  • Archivist.
  • Lawyer.
