CCSD Students Earn International Career Skills Honors
Cherokee County School District students earned top honors at an international career skills competition!
Students from Creekview HS, River Ridge HS and Sequoyah HS all recently traveled to California to compete at the DECA student marketing, management and entrepreneurship association’s International Career Development Conference. More than 23,000 students, teachers and professionals attend the annual event.
The eight students from Creekview High School all earned the Award of Excellence for impressive scores in their events, and senior Olivia Canada earned third place in the Career Development Project! This is the first time for a Creekview HS student to place at the international level, and Olivia is one of only three students from Georgia, out of 510 competitors from the state, to earn a top three honor.
Senior Katie Bacon earned honors in the Community Awareness competition for her “Be Kind” apparel line, which raised $1,600 to create a Special Olympics club at Creekview HS.
Seniors Bryson Guy and Pierson Sears and junior Emily Mondich earned honors in the Community Giving Project competition for their “Cereal Bowl” project. They partnered with Free Home Elementary School to collect cereal to stock their school food pantry.
Juniors Sofia Mulkey and Riley Urmann earned honors in their Financial Literacy Project competition for their “Grizzlies Get, Grow & Give” project to teach Macedonia ES fifth-grader AIM students.
Senior Austin St. Amour earned honors in the Principles of Business Administration Role Play competition.
Career Pathway: Marketing and Management teacher Ashley Jones is the DECA advisor for Creekview HS.
River Ridge HS sophomore Udi Gitau earned the Award of Excellence for impressive scores in the Financial Consulting event. Udi placed fourth in the state to qualify for internationals; two classmates also qualified at state: ninth-grader Pratiksha Kandasamy Tamilselvi, with third place in Chapter Chronicles and junior Tristan Wallace, with fourth place in Job Interview. Career Pathway: Marketing and Management teacher Katie Thompson is the DECA advisor for River Ridge HS.
Sequoyah HS sophomore Eleni Giannopoulos earned the Award of Excellence for impressive scores in the Principles of Business Administration Role Play competition. Career Pathway: Marketing and Management teacher Chana Miller is the DECA advisor for Sequoyah HS.
