CCSD Theatre Programs Earn Top Honors at Regional Competition

Cherokee County School District theatre programs and students earned top honors at regional One Act Play competitions, with one show advancing to a state performance event!
In the Region 5-6A competition, Etowah High School won the region championship for its production of the play, “Eurydice,” and in the Region 6-5A competition, Sequoyah High School won the region championship for its production of the musical, “Little Shop of Horrors,” and earned third place in in the 5A statewide competition.
Sequoyah’s theatre program also has been selected to perform its award-winning show at this year’s statewide Georgia Thespian Conference in Columbus in February.
Students from both schools earned additional individual region honors for acting and crew roles. The schools’ programs are led by Etowah HS teacher Charlotte Forrest and Sequoyah HS teacher Cindy Humphlett. Sequoyah HS choral director Josh Markham, served as the show’s assistant director and music director.

Cherokee High’s Brandon Mears earned the Region 5-7A Best Actor honor, and Kaylee Kula and Tessa Ghassemzadeh were named to the All-Star Cast. River Ridge High’s Tripp Scurlock earned the Region 6-6A Best Actor honor, and Morgan Beavers and Kyra Chroni were named to the All-Star Cast.
