This message from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower is to our graduating Class of 2023 seniors.  We are sharing it with all of you, as they are the future of our community.  To see our graduating seniors' names, please click on the school name posted below his message.

Dear Class of 2023,

The world can change in a minute.  Think about how much it has changed just during your time in high school.

As freshmen, your world opened wider than ever before with new opportunities for learning, friendships and possibility.  And then that March the world stopped.

You had to adapt to that change, and then the changes that followed each year of your high school career.  Most high school students just have to learn a new schedule each semester.  You had to learn a new way of going to school and living in the world.

Then this year came like a rainbow at the end of a storm.  We kept calling each year throughout the pandemic our “new normal,” but your senior year truly was back to just “normal.”

Your experiences through this time have given you the opportunity to develop the important life skill of resiliency.  No matter your career path, this is a valuable tool for success.

Your resiliency has inspired me.  As this school year comes to a close, I’ve been able to hear some of your classmates speak about their future aspirations.  I’ve read many more through posts by our school district, your school and your parents on social media.

When the skies clear after a storm at night, the stars always shine brighter to me.  You are like these stars to me, shining with so much potential and lighting up the night for all of us.

It is my greatest hope that, no matter the future path you choose, part of your goal is to make our community and our world a better place.  You have seen how quickly the world can change, both for the worse and for the better.

On average, we’re fortunate enough to have 39,998,160 minutes in a life, which means you have plenty of time to change the world for the better.

I can’t wait to see you do it.  Best wishes and shine bright.

Thank you,

Dr. Brian V. Hightower
