Teacher Appreciation Month Spotlight: Dr. Cathy Murphy of Sequoyah HS!
In honor of Teacher Appreciation Month, we’re celebrating a school 2025 Teacher of the Year each day! English teacher Dr. Cathy Murphy, a 27-year educator, is the Teacher of the Year for Sequoyah High School!
“Dr. Murphy sets all her students up for success through her brilliant class structure and lesson plans which leave students prepared, whether it be for an AP exam or to apply writing skills to their everyday lives; however, she remains adaptive and attentive to students’ needs, demonstrating her student-based approach,” a former student shared. “While Dr. Murphy is respected for her competence, it is her infectious personality and warmhearted attitude that make her so beloved by her students. I have come to know her as a kind and compassionate mentor. Dr. Murphy’s classroom environment is a safe space for her students, and she promotes belonging in her classroom as much as she does work ethic. I credit her with the friendly atmosphere between my peers that feels like extended family.”
